Radiotherapy Unit prides the medical centre with a Linear Accelerator : Linac capable of doing an external beam radiation therapy to the tumour.
This unit is headed by Dr. Yu Kong Leong, Radiotherapy Oncologist together with Dr. Ong Eng Joe, Paediatric Haemo-Oncologist, Dr Lau Lee Gong, Haematologist and very experienced oncology staff nurses.
The types of treatment offered:
- 2D Conventional Radiotherapy : Conventional treatment uses single or opposing beams, with or without 2D dose distributions, with compensators and simple shielding
- 3D Conformal Radiotherapy : Three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy is a technique where the beams of radiation used in treatment are shaped and to match the tumour. This is mostly referred for cases like head and neck, cervical, brain, breast, prostate cancer, etc
- IMRT Radiotherapy : Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy is an advance technique uses advanced technology to manipulate beams of radiation to conform to the shape of a tumor. IMRT uses multiple small radiation beams of varying intensities to precisely radiate a tumor.
